Third CSA Pick-up

Oops! I missed the second week. It was similar to the first only without the kale but with sugar snap peas. For the third week of CSA we received one bunch of Russian kale, one head of red leaf lettuce, one head of Boston lettuce, one bag of mixed salad greens, on pint of sugar snap peas, four garlic scapes, a bag of spinach, and one bunch of spring onions. From other vendors at the farmers' market we purchased tomatoes, basil, a ball of mozzarella cheese, zucchini, green peppers, rhubarb, and a loaf of bread.
On Saturday night, I tried my hand at a strawberry-rhubarb pie. Not a bad first attempt. Sunday we dined on green salads and pasta caprese for lunch with the pie for dessert. Monday night we enjoyed green salads with tomato, basil, and mozzarella sandwiches - grilled of course. Tuesday night Brad steamed the spinach, sauteed the sugar snap peas with some of the spring onions, grilled the scapes, and served it all with dry rubbed, slow-cooked, grill finished, BBQ sauce coated country-style pork ribs. Oh my word!
Being home with Michael for the summer is proving to be even more fun that I had imagined! I'm so excited that I'll be able to be home with him when he starts walking! And he's almost there, too. Starting to let go of the table or whatever he's hanging on to and standing for a few seconds before falling down. I'm sure it won't be long now.

Farmer's Market/CSA

On this delightfully dreary Saturday (a welcome change from the weather earlier this week) we made our first outing to the Hope Street Farmer's Market for the season. We've joined a new CSA for the summer through Simmons Farm, but our pick-up location is in Providence. We're very excited about this season and can't wait to see what it brings! From our CSA (second photo) we picked up a pint of strawberries, one bunch of Russian Kale, one bunch of spring onions, a bag of spinach, a bag of salad greens, a head of lettuce, and one bunch of radishes. While we were there (first photo) we also picked up some eggs and garlic scapes from Zephyr Farm, cucumbers from Wishing Stone Farm, and Swiss chard from Arcadian Fields Farm. Not pictured here are the croissants (chocolate for Katie and Michael and ham and cheese for Brad) from Olga's Cup and Saucer.
