Learning to Eat from a Bottle

Here's Brad teaching Michael to take a bottle. It's Michael's second attempt and Brad's first. Michael took 8mL during this feeding and has taken 11mL in each subsequent feeding. (Eleven mL is what he takes in an hour of continuous feeding.)

Getting Ready

About two weeks before Michael was born, we headed out to choose a crib and changing table for him. For whatever reason, I (Katie) insisted that Brad get both set up right away. Not sure why, but in light of the way things turned out, I'm glad I did. Here are a couple of pictures of Brad hard at work to transform our newly finished guest room into a (sort of) nursery for Michael. Half of the room will still be Brad's office.

Michael Robert Smith

Just to keep his parents on our toes, Michael arrived three months early on April 19. He is the most wonderful little boy! And, oh my, is he feisty! Michael is 5 weeks old today and still maintaining his 3rd floor penthouse suite in Providence. That is, his room in the NICU. We don't know how long until he'll be able to join us at home; the doctors usually estimate discharge at around the original due date. So it will probably be a while. The picture today was taken by Michael's uncle, Zach. It's from a few weeks ago; he's much bigger now. We'll update again soon!

Baby Boy!

So, as it happens, our new addition will be a boy. And here he is!

An Addition

Not sure if anyone reads the blog anymore as our updates have been rather sparse. Nothing to report about improvements to the house, but our home will be changing and improving beyond what we can imagine when Baby Smith arrives in July!!
